Hello Guys,

A friend of mine referred me to one of Big4s. He’s doing tax. I have 3 years experience in taxation and just got my CPA license this year.

Then I got this email from HR saying that they would like to discuss my background further without telling if there is a specific position.

What does this mean? Is this just some random thing they would do to everyone?

I really want to join the firm. But I don’t know if I should have hope on this one!

Any tips, please?

I would prepare myself for a phone interview if I were you, using tips from google.

Just FYI, big 4 interviews with HR = Does HR feel like you're a fit with the firm?

Be prepared, but be sociable at the same time.

It's most likely a basic interview with someone in HR. What you've worked on so far, why you're trying to leave your current position, what you're interested in doing, if/why you want to do Big 4 tax. They're trying to get a feel if you'd fit in and also what level you may be at compared to what they have available. Basically they want to gauge whether it's worthwhile to have you interview with some people in tax and are worth pursuing as a candidate.

Be interesting, know your experience, and be able to discuss what you want out of your career in the next move.

I had an initial phone interview with DT, it was with back to back Senior Managers one of which become partner the following year–so it could be more than a basic interview with an HR person–if they didnt tell you who its with, prep well just in case 🙂
