    Hey Guys,

I had my interview today with the Big4 recruiter.

The call only lasted about 20 minutes. Basically she asked me some info. regarding my education and career background. So I told her what I do and what achievements I made. She had an available position in some other city. But I told her that I only wanted to find a position near the city where I’m living right now. And then she said she would pass my resume to my city’s recruiting staff and see if there’s any openings. And hopefully they could get back to me next week and arrange a face-to-face interview soon.

What does this mean? Did I pass this phone interview and move to the next step? Or she just randomly said something nice??? So confused!!!

I think it means they're interested if they want to set up a face to face interview. My experience went similar to that and I was hire at a big 4 firm. If you live in a small city it may be take what you can as far as positions go, so if they don't have something in your city, you may either have to take the other city or just look elsewhere. They're pretty stringent on the numbers allocated for their new hire classes.

LinkA8A0A – Thanks for replying. I'm living in a big city, while the recruiter is in a smaller one. She also asked about my salary expectation and legal status to work in U.S.

Should I contact next week to follow up?

It's just the interview lasted way shorter than I expected, and that's why I am so nervous now!!!

I wouldn't be worried about the length of a phone interview. It's meant to be somewhat brief as they like to interview in person to get a real feel for your mannerisms, poise, etc. phone interviews are more of a basic screen to see if you're worth the time to bring in for an in person meeting.

I would send a quick “thank you” email and just say that you are excited about the opportunity. They may not be able to do things immediately, but I would follow up again probably at the end of next week something like “hi ( ) I really enjoyed speaking with you… I'm excited about this opportunity and am looking forward to the opportunity to meet with some of your colleagues to see if this could be a good mutual fit… Let me know if you need anything else from me… Have a nice afternoon/weekend”.

You don't want to seem pushy/desperate, but also don't sit back with your arms crossed. Let them know you want it! Find that middle ground to keep things moving. If they are interested, they should be in touch within 2-3 weeks at the latest to give you an update.

I definitely wouldn't be worried. My first interview with the Big 4 firm I'm currently with was by phone and went pretty much the same way as yours. If she stated that they will be in touch for set up a face to face interview, they are certainly interested. Just be patient with them reaching back out to you. Best of luck!

My biggest concern is that the recruiter is not working in my city's office or not in the same industry. Can I trust what she told me?
