This article lists Deloitte and E&Y as 2 of the top 30 most generous 401k programs in the country based on vesting schedule, employer matches, and eligibility.

This had me curious, because I always felt that public accounting firms had lamer offered benefits compared to private industry. Can anybody provide the scoop on these 401 plans? Info on PWC and KPMG would also be helpful! Anybody that wants to add info on non-big 4 firms and companies would be interesting as well

Where staff vest in the pension after 3 years, and will get some sort of monthly payment at retirement age, pay a close eye to the name of the plan listed for EY:

Now this could be a plan that actually covers everyone, but I know the Big4 I work at has “Pension Plan” and “Pension Plan for Partners and Principles” and I'm pretty sure the amounts in the funds are very different lol

KPMG – matches 25% up to 5% of your income

PwC – matches 25% up to 6% (I believe) of your income

At both firms you're eligible after 2 months of employment. They also have some sort of pension plan that they set aside for you (you don't contribute to that one). I think they're just money market accounts that are very low risk with a low interest rate. PwC's starts immediately and KPMG's after one year, I don't really know much about it aside from that. At both firms the 401(k) is fully vested after 5 years, going up 20% per year.

The match seems pretty low to me, but I don't really know what 401(k) plans typically look like in private.

I think Deloitte and EY are also similar (25% up to 6% of salary). Pretty much crap as far as 401k's are concerned. Pension I heard is solid, but only if you stay for quite a while (I think it vests and then continues to accrue after 3 years of service.. I may be wrong on that).
