I have been offered from both KPMG and Deloitte- and I am not sure which too choose.

KPMG-

Pros: Sign on bonus, bonus for passing CPA, high salary, senior associate

Cons: Didnt like manager (micromanages and is condescending), drive is extra 15 minutes, most likely longer hours, its in the State & Local Franchise tax divison – not something I am fond of.

Deloitte:

Pros: Better reputation, better hours, closer/less drive, internal income tax division, really liked both managers

Cons: No Bonuses, Lower Salary, No CPA incentive

Please help.

With that being said, you cannot pass over the fact of liking/not liking the people you work with. You're either going to like your job and progress faster, or hate it and stay stagnant.

Deloitte does not give bonus or increase for CPA.

See I would want Deloitte- better managers, better office and culture, better position, better division… but its a $17k swing. $5k salary difference, $5k bonus for CPA, $2k sign on and $5k deposited in my retirement – all at KPMG. Hard to say ‘no' to that much money. I know I would like my job and life more at KPMG – but sometimes that amount of money is really enticing- something hard to turn down

Money does not equate to happiness. Personally, I would go with the firm that gave you the best feeling, and liking/respecting those you work with would seem to trump money every time.

Is the Deloitte offer, firm?

See if they'll budge, and go from there. Also, if you start in SALT at KPMG, and you end up hating it– maybe you can try to dabble in other dept projects and work your way from there.

I am in Nashville- its the Deloitte administrative hq's. I have a lot more room to grow or expand in divisions at Deloitte. (10,000 people). The KPMG office is really small in Nashville – only 100 people total in all divisions. There are only 5 staff members in SALT division- and same with the tax division. KPMG said its hard to switch divisions with them because I would be getting SALT experience and not more federal experience which is why they try to keep everyone in the same divisions to build up expertise.

I told Deloitte about my offer- but they can only offer so much they said. It is because its the Deloitte administrative division- not public accounting, all internal income tax for partnerships owned by Deloitte.
