I signed a ft tax offer and start in winter 2013. I really enjoy the people in the tax department, however, i don’t like how most of the work is done alone at my cube. I’m at my best when around other people.

Should i suck it up for a year and then re-evaluate?

Immediately let someone know that i may be interested in switching to audit?

I am very grateful for the opportunity to work at a Big 4 firm in either tax or audit so i don’t want to piss anyone off and seem un appreciative.

I work at a Big 4 firm, and I would recommend that you stay the course for the time being. Believe me, you will have opportunities to switch in the future. However, if you make that play right now, it won't reflect well on you because you haven't proven yourself yet (i.e., no one knows you, your personality, your work quality, etc.). But that's just my opinion, so I hope that helps.

Seems to me like you are in the wrong area.

Audit=out and about talking with people, different locations all the time

Tax=same location, same desk, always in the office working in your cube

Im sure a lot of people will jump on me and say I am stereotyping, but majority of tax people sit in their cube and work. With audit you are out meeting new people at all the companies and sometime can be auditing a new company every couple weeks.

Thanks Baseball. That was the decision i was leaning towards since it's not a matter of tax vs audit, i wanted to work in tax to do provisions/fas 109 stuff which gets you out of the office anyway.

I know I am starting to sound like an over eager ex-intern who doesn't know crap but the one thing i did learn from my tax internship is that i like to work in teams rather than at my cube Hans Solo everyday.
