Hi Everyone,

I had a phone screen interview with KPMG a few days ago. How long should I expect to wait to hear from them regarding the second round interview? Usually how many people or percentage can go to second round?

It depends. For experienced hires, recruiters would often mention at the end of the phone interview that the firm will be looking to set up an in-person meeting soon if they are interested. Also possible to hear back the same day or the next day. If the person in charge is busy and the need is not too pressing might take a couple more days. I'd probably follow up after 4-5 business days.

Also, there's no set percentage for how many people make it to round two – all depends on how well you perform during the phone interview.

Pro tip: always ask what the timeline looks like during/ at the end of an interview. I think it would show confidence as well as improve your understanding of the process.

I got my CPA license and have less than 2 years work experience in a small public accounting firm. The job I applied is tax.

I failed again. They are considering someone internal. So if the interviewer does not set up in person interview at the end of phone interview, it means I did not do well, right? I have interviewed a few, all said they would share background with their boss, never talked about next steps with me.

It took them 2 weeks to email me about my second interview after my phone interview. For the second interview, they usually call you the same day if you got the job.

why would anyone want to work for big 4 ? with all the hours you put in its like $15 an hour. The new grocery store near my house is paying $17 an hour (which has lot less stress than BIG 4)

better off working at a small to regional size firm . Unless your all about the brand name…

Yes, its all about the name. A lot of places I tried applying states, “big 4 experience preferred.”

I wanna do M&A tax and only big firms offer such service. My job is business tax and don't have M&A tax experience. Thus I can't apply for any experienced M&A tax job. I guess I am stuck. I plan to go to big firms, do business tax and then transfer to do what I want.

haha Moose- our firm of 45 people specifically does NOT EVEN interview big 4 ppl. Reason is they get pigeon holed into useless stuff and at our firm we wear many different “hats” and need a broad general knowledge.

My friend was big 4 and I gave the partner at my firm his resume so I can possibly get the 5,000$ referral bonus and he threw the resume in trash .

I guess every firm is different. Most of my friends and brother works for the Big 4, they hate their jobs but waiting for 2-3years of experience to get out. I am sure they don't learn crap lol but its all about the name.

I actually agree with @Shawn_in_VA … The Big 4 name is definitely a huge tool to get you in the door of bigger companies, but the work is so specialized that you're likely not very well-rounded and will need to be trained as if you were straight out of school.

shawn in VA, interns at Big4s get paid $25/hour, and in 3-5 years you're closer to $50/hour.
