Hi guys,

I know how hard it is to get into big 4 without knowing anyone from one of those firms. I have been submitted my resume through their website, but no luck in getting an interview offer. That is why I went to graduate school to build up some network. However, I still have not received any offer at this moment. I was wondering whether any of you educated bloggers can provide me with the advices to get into big 4 or other mid-tier accounting firms. I have passed my CPA exams and currently employeed at the State of California as a Tax auditor. Any of your help will be appreciated. If I get an offer from any of public accounting firms, I will definitely share my experiences as well. Thank you guys!

Would you still be able to use the career service from your alum mater? I have to say campus recruiting is extremely useful to help you land an interview at big 4. I currently work at a big 4 and I am very involved in campus recruiting. Getting an interview through school has essentially the same, if not higher probability for getting you an interview.

Thanks for your response! I really do appreciate your feedback. Unfortunately, BIG 4 recruiting season has been over as of fall semester. In a way, I lost a good chance to get an interview offer last semester. Since you are working for Big 4 (congrats!), do you have any other suggestion for me to get an opportunity with them? Our Masters program is only a year program, so I cannot have another shot during upcoming fall semester. Thanks again for your insights!

Hey geul1007 – I'm sure you've probably heard this, but sometimes its more about who you know. Lots of people in our tax practice at my Big 4 office have been hired through employee recommendations.

I'd be happy to look at your resume and submit it to our employee recommendation database if you are interested. From what I have gathered, we love having former auditors in our practice.

Even employee recommendations aren't guaranteed an interview. I had my resume forwarded by two employees back in November and my application still says “initial interest.” My optimism is gone. It's so hard to get in the door without campus recruiting!
