Ok guys. I have worked at a small accounting firm for about 3years now. I mainly do tax and governmental audits. I felt like I needed a change and at the same time, wantng to be with the fam a bit. So I applied and got offers at PwC, china for both audit and tax positions. If I chose audit I will be focusing more on chinas audit standard and if i decided to go with tax then I will be doing US Tax related work. I think that if I accepted the tax position, it will help me with mt resume and when I decided to come back to the us here in a couple of year. I’d like to work for PwC, after all it is one of the big 4. But I’m not sure if an oversea big 4 experience is good enough for when I come back to compete for a job in the states.

Do you think working at a big4 firm thats not located in the US Is worth while or should I continue to work at a small to mid size firm? Id like to have the big 4 experience but I also don’t want to drop everything I have here and go oversea working there and lose any advantage for staying here and not have a promising future for when I come back.

Audit – Find out what kinds of clients you will be placed on. For US GAAP/audits, audit = usually means a fair amount of traveling. When you audit retail/wholesale clients, there tends to be a lot of travel to warehouse storage sites for inventory counts and/or administrative offices that can be located in remote places (which means less time with the fam).

Gov't audits are often at municipal buildings in urban areas where public transportation is fairly accessible.

Tax work is usually not a lot of travel, most of your time is spent in the accounting office, so your daily/weekly/monthly schedule is a little more predictable.

    Couldn't pass again!

What's your goal down the road? You said you want to move back to the US at some point. Do you want to come back to a small firm then? If so, they might actually NOT like your Big 4 experience. If you want to come back to the US and work for a Big 4 firm, then I would say international Big 4 experience is better than US small firm experience.
